When a domain name is not renewed before its expiry date, it goes through several stages before it becomes permanently unavailable. Understanding these stages can help you avoid losing your domain or incurring additional costs.

Domain Lifecycle

1. Active Domain

Your domain is functioning normally. We send renewal reminders at 30, 15, 7, and 3 days before the due date. We strongly recommend renewing your domain before it expires to avoid any disruption.

Important: Some domain extensions (such as .si, .at, .eu, and .cz) require renewal before the expiry date. If not renewed in time, these domains are immediately deactivated with no grace period.

2. Grace Period (Obdobje milosti)

After expiry, most generic domain extensions (.com, .net, .org, .xyz, etc.) enter a grace period. During this time, you can still renew the domain at the standard renewal price with no additional fees.

The grace period length varies by extension — typically 40 days for most generic extensions, and 44 days for extensions like .io, .me, .tv, and .forum. Some country-code extensions (.eu, .si, .de, .at) have no grace period and skip directly to the redemption stage or expiry.

During the grace period, your website and email services will not function. However, you can restore full functionality by renewing the domain through your client area.

3. Redemption Period (Obdobje odkupa)

If the grace period passes without renewal, the domain may enter a redemption period. During this stage, the domain can still be recovered, but an additional redemption fee is charged on top of the standard renewal price.

The redemption period length and fee vary by extension. You can find the current values for each extension on our Domain Pricing page.

Not all extensions have an automated redemption period. For extensions where the redemption period is listed as 0 days on our pricing page, automated restoration is not available. In such cases, please open a support ticket immediately — we may be able to attempt a manual restoration through our registrar. Manual restoration is not guaranteed and depends on the registry's policies and timing.

4. Expired / Deleted

Once all recovery periods have passed, the domain is permanently deleted and released back to the open market. At this point, anyone can register it. We cannot recover the domain for you after this stage.

How to Avoid Losing Your Domain

  • Pay renewal invoices promptly: we send multiple reminders before the due date.
  • Keep your contact details up to date: ensure you receive our renewal notifications.
  • Monitor your client area: check the expiry dates of your domains regularly.

What To Do If Your Domain Has Expired

  1. Log in to your client area and check the domain status.
  2. If the domain is in the grace period, renew it normally — no extra fees apply.
  3. If the domain is in the redemption period, the renewal will include a redemption fee as shown on our pricing page.
  4. If no automated restoration is available (redemption period shows 0 days), open a support ticket as soon as possible. We will contact our registrar to attempt a manual restoration. Additional fees may apply and success is not guaranteed.
  5. If the domain has fully expired, it can no longer be recovered.
